Century-old bones,
reimagined for today

Built in 1905, this Seattle colonial arrived with the irreplaceable gifts of age: generous proportions, original millwork, and lots of windows to bring in light. The challenge was to honor those qualities while bringing the home fully into the present.

Our design approach was one of dialogue: letting the architecture speak first, and responding with furnishings and finishes that feel at once contemporary and in keeping with the home's heritage. The living room's original fireplace became an anchor; art and lighting were chosen to bring warmth rather than drama.

The sunroom, seating areas, and dining space each received individual attention — rooms that feel complete in themselves while remaining coherent with the whole. The result is a home with classic and clean-lined furnishings that balance the best of both worlds.

Design Approach

The thinking behind this space

01
Original Details
Original millwork, generous ceiling heights, rooms with real presence — these cannot be designed into a house after the fact. The work here was to honor those irreplaceable qualities while making space for a life being lived right now.
02
Each Room, Complete
The sunroom, the dining room, the living spaces — each was treated as its own composition with its own logic, while remaining in dialogue with the whole.
03
Warmth Through Layering
Warmth in a space isn't achieved through color alone. Here, the relationship between materials, textiles, light, and scale bring warmth to the space.
